Abstract: Arising from paucity offunds and the consequent inability to purchase imported laboratory equipment, some postgraduate projects were designed in the Faculty of Engineering,University of Benin, Nigeria to construct some laboratory equipment. These equipment included a two-component cutting force lathe dynamometer and a brake pad test rig. They were designed, constructed and tested for performance. The lathe dynamometer is used for measuring cutting forces in lathe turning. The brake pad test rig is used for assessing the performance of automobile disk brake pads. The equipment are being used for teaching and research.
