Abstract: This paper examines the relationship between the practice of democracy in Nigeria and national development. The paper highlights the fact that a pertinent characteristics of a democratic society is the full realization through active participation in the democratic process. The paper recommends that the government should engage in activities that really brings the dividends of democracy to the people because it is only when this happens that one can say that democracy has led to national development
