Abstract: Computing and its associated technologies have witnessed tremendous advances in the past 2-3 decades. With the development of super high-speed microprocessors and parallel processing technologies, incredible computing power is now available even as desktop systems. Extremely versatile and efficient algorithms for executing very rigorous and complex graphic functions have been developed. However, it isstill the consensus of scholars that, despite these phenomenal growths in computer technologies, the deficiencies of the computer in aiding design processes persist. This has been attributed to the fact that systems available support design production effectively, while most can render little or no support tothe initial stages of design creation. This paper proposes whatmay constitute the conceptual basis for a new approach to design support tools development that lays emphasis on the computer aided design environment (CADE), in which the designer can explore his design potentials optimally in the computer without changing his design approach.
