Abstract: This paper identifies the Construction Industry as being responsible for building a Nation’s physical infrastructure, and providing shelter and transportation facilities for its citizens, business, industry and institutions. Recognizing that the costs of its services and products are a fundamental determinant of the country’s competitiveness, the paper posits that an efficient and profitable construction sector is a key fundamental for National progress. The paper laments the lack of appreciation of this role of the Construction industry in the economic development of Nigeria and indeed most developing nations thereby neglecting a very vital instrument in their development. It identifies the key players involved in the Sector and suggests a concerted championing effort by all, especially the Professional Associations, to bring to the awareness of government the economic and strategic importance of the Industry in a Nations growth and develop a strategic and economic vision for the industry.
