Abstract: A study of flooding in Benin River Basin, Nigeria was carried out using rainfall and temperature data from 1961 to 2000 and flooding data from 1990 to 2006. The climatic data indicated large variation in annual rainfall between 1961-2000. The temperature regime showed a gradual warming of the environment. Increasing temperature and fluctuating sporadic rainfall attenuated the incidences of flooding in the drainage basin. Adaptation strategies adopted by the communities are highlighted.
