Abstract: This study investigated the methods that teachers used in teaching reading in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The purpose of this study was to find out if teacher were aware of methods used in teaching reading and which of the method(s) they used. All the eighty seven English language teachers in Egor Local Government Area were used in this study and the data instruments were observation schedule and a questionnaire called `Method of Teaching Reading’ (MTR). Data collected were analyzed using simple percentages and the chi-square. The result of the study revealed that teachers are aware of the different methods of teaching reading in the secondary school, the basal was mostly used and the teachers surveyed used a single method (basal) in teaching reading. It was recommended that reading as a discipline should be given the prominence it deserves in the curricular, teachers should be encourage to use a combination of methods as no single method can cater for all the needs of the students in the class
