Abstract: Single machine scheduling in multistage manufacturing systems presents interesting challenges. In a typical multistage manufacturing system, jobs in each stages are assigned to multiple machines or work centers. Hence multistage manufacturing systems involve more than just one machine. Interestingly, there is growing interest in single machine model for multistage manufacturing systems. In this work we discuss single machine scheduling, highlighting the mathematical techniques for single machine models in multistage manufacturing systems.
